How Alerts Work

How Tornado Path monitors severe weather 24/7 and makes sure you never miss a warning that matters to you.

~13 minutes

Average tornado warning lead time

That's how much advance notice you typically get. And that's the average — some warnings have even less lead time.

What if you're asleep? In a loud environment? Away from a TV? Your phone is on silent? Getting a phone call or text alert in those moments could be the difference between being caught off guard and getting to safety.

How We Alert You

When a warning is issued that affects one of your protected addresses, we can reach you three different ways:

Phone Call

An automated call with a clear message: what the warning is and what you should do. Rings even when your phone is on silent.

SMS Text Message

Warning details, affected areas, and safety instructions — delivered instantly to your phone.

Email

Full warning information delivered to your inbox. Great as a backup or for keeping records.

What's a Protected Address?

A protected address is any location you want monitored — your home, your office, your parent's house, your kid's school, anywhere you care about.

You can add multiple addresses. All of them are monitored 24/7.

Polygon-Level Precision

Here's what makes our alerts different from county-wide alerts:

1

NWS issues warning with polygon

2

We check if YOUR address is inside

3

If yes → alert immediately

This means fewer false alarms. County-wide alerts might warn your entire county even when the tornado is 40 miles away. Our polygon-based alerts only trigger when the actual danger zone covers your specific address.

Why Does It Cost Money?

Phone calls, texts, and emails all cost money to send. Hosting, databases, servers, Twilio, email infrastructure, and ongoing development — it costs well over $1,000/month to run.

The app itself is completely free for everyone — no ads, no tracking, no paywalls on weather data. The radar, outlooks, warnings, and maps are all free to use.

The ~3% pay so the app stays free for the 97%

When you subscribe, you're not just getting alerts for yourself — you're helping keep the entire app free and ad-free for everyone else. We genuinely appreciate every subscriber.
